Dr. Jack Holladay, Chairman of CRSQA

Dr.Jack Holladay, MD is a LASIK surgeon who is known to support Council for Refractive Surgery Quality Assurance (CRSQA), a sham organization founded by a high school graduate, Glenn Hagele. Despite its pretentious name, CRSQA is really just a marketing ploy for LASIK surgeons. CRSQA provides referral services to 30 - 40 LASIK surgeons who pay annual fees of several thousand dollars. In exchange, they receive CRSQA's bogus seal of approval to promote their LASIK practices and a listing on the USAEyes website.

CRSQA's so-called quality "standards" are a joke. Read more. A doctor can be CRSQA-certified even if he has been sued repeatedly for medical malpractice. Read more. Indeed, Glenn Hagele's primary concern is to help LASIK surgeons acquire patients.

CRSQA's "certification" is simply worthless from a medical perspective. Looking for a LASIK surgeon on the USAEyes.org website is no better than thumbing through the yellow pages.

CRSQA's not-for-profit status does not say anything about the legitimacy of the organization. Remember, not-for-profit status has been given to many notorious shams.

A lawsuit has been filed against Glenn Hagele and Council for Refractive Surgery Quality Assurance d/b/a USAEyes.org ("CRSQA/USAEyes") for defamation and unfair and deceptive trade practices. From the lawsuit:

CRSQA/USAEyes and Hagele are engaged in the business of promoting the LASIK industry and , among other things, criticizing, harassing, and intimidating those who wish to speak publicly about the risks of the LASIK procedure and about negative outcomes experienced by some LASIK patients.

In particular, Hagele has criticized and harassed many people who have attempted to raise concerns about LASIK surgery on the Internet. He has also harassed people who have attempted to establish websites and other forums for patients to discuss LASIK surgery and share concerns about the surgical procedure.

Upon information and belief, CRSQA/USAEyes and Hagele and the activities they engage in are subsidized by LASIK surgeons who have a direct pecuniary interest in increasing the number of persons choosing the LASIK procedure. Thus, those LASIK surgeons -- and their agents CRSQA/USAEyes and Hagele -- have a direct pecuniary interest in silencing those who would speak publicly about the risks of the LASIK procedure and about negative outcomes experienced by some LASIK patients.

Upon information and belief, the actions taken by Hagele, as alleged herein, have been undertaken at the direction of and/or with the express or tacit authorization or ratification of CRSQA/USAEyes and the LASIK surgeons who subsidize CRSQA/USAEyes and Hagele.
